Tips for first time tenants

Tips for first time tenants

It can be daunting renting a property for the first time. If you are becoming a first time renter there are a few things you can do to strengthen your rental application. The main thing a Property Manager focusses on is that you have sufficient funds to be able to afford to live in the property. They will also want to know that you have the ability to take care of the property and comply with the terms and conditions of the lease.

If you are currently living with your parents, you will need to provide personal references. In some situations, you may also choose to have a parent co-sign your lease with you.

Examples of documentation you can provide that will help support your application include:

•     Verification of employment
•     Verification of income
•     Reference from employer
•     Reference from neighbor, teacher, business person, doctor or accountant
•     Photo identification – driver’s licence, passport, student ID
•     Three personal references – these should not be from relatives
